SAM EV
The Sam EV is for people who lead an urban, sustainable and efficient lifestyle. The three-wheeled vehicle feels comfortable on narrow city streets and is perfectly tailored to local transport. Studies show namely that the average travel distance per trip is 17.8 km and a car is average while occupied with 1.3 persons. Sam was designed exactly for these requirements.

The vehicle consists of about a tenth of the components of a market automobile and is systematically simple. The single wheel in the back provides a direct and efficient power transmission by belt drive. This eliminates the heavy rear axle. Rear and front axle are connected to a metal carrier and form the backbone of the vehicle. In this system, the battery and the rest of the electronics are housed. The body is made of recyclable polyethylene.
The construction consists of two pages and a tail and a nose. These four parts are manufactured using plastic rotational molding. The door opens upwards. Thanks to the central seating position, the vehicle can be used both in the left and in right-hand traffic. Like all electric vehicles is also Sam maintenance and accordingly low maintenance costs.
The battery system consists of coordinated individual components such as battery cells, electronic connectors, cooling and heating system and battery management system. The battery is based on lithium polymer technology and consists of 36 cells, each 3.7 Volt / 53Ah. This allows a power output of around 7 KWh store. The energy transfer and charge the cells are controlled by a battery management system (BMS). The BMS was of the s.r.a. Group Ltd and the Bern University of Applied Sciences Biel developed and applied to patent worldwide.

Batteries work best at a constant temperature as possible environment which is quite similar to that for humans. They have addressed this issue into account and developed a sophisticated thermal management. The battery cells are pre-heated about this system in cold temperatures before loading. At high temperatures is cooled accordingly. So that the battery can be used in both summer and winter without much performance difference.

The life of a battery is measured by the number of charge cycles or the calendar life in years. Under laboratory conditions, performed tests show a cycle strength of over 1,200 full cycles (from completely empty to completely full) until the battery only has 80% of its original capacity. This is approximately equivalent mileage of 100'000km. About the calendar life of a lithium battery is not well known because the technology is still relatively new. However, their first prototypes are for three years on the road without significant capacity loss.
