Carver
A franchise owner of Domino’s pizza in the Dutch city of Wassenaar was looking for a new delivery vehicle for his business. By coincidence Stephan van Veen discovered the existence of Carver’s ‘Light Electric Vehicles’. An enthusiastic applicant, himself a Carver owner, told the restaurant owner about the Dutch manufacturer’s electric vehicles.
The Carver just works for us
Past experiences with electric delivery vehicles had not been successful. Rarely did they achieve the promised range and the build quality had room for improvement to say the least. But Carver’s brand story gave Stephan the confidence to invest in a new electric powered delivery vehicle. “At the time we were having to decide whether to go with a new car or motor scooter, and then we stumbled upon the Carver.”
Upgrading the fleet in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable way also impacted their choices. “We certainly took this into consideration, electric vehicles are quite interesting to me. The difference in costs between a Carver and electric scooter isn’t too big, so I figured we should give it a try. It’s a solid compromise between a car and a scooter. It’s all about the bigger picture for us, with the Carver everything just seems to work for us.”
Visibility
For the past four months Domino’s new Carver has been riding around in Wassenaar. “It really is a curious and notable vehicle, it grabs people’s attention. They tend to see it coming, and it draws a lot of attention to our brand.” Stephan speaks about former employees and colleagues messaging him, asking about the new delivery vehicle. “Needless to say, we’ve piqued interest from colleagues of other branches.
Expenses and safe delivery
So far, the Carver has not had any unforeseen expenses. “The delivery bikes and scooters tend to have high maintenance costs after the first year” the restaurant owner explains. There haven’t been any damages yet; “as far as safety and damages concerned, the main advantage is that the deliverers can’t slip or fall when they drive the Carver. It’s as stable as a car thanks to the tricycle wheelbase.” The deliverers are less vulnerable during their drive and being able to close the doors adds to the safety. “Frankly, I’m also happy to be able to offer my staff a dry ride when it’s raining.”
