LEVC is equipped with an additional on-board generator (small 1.5-liter gasoline engine) called a range extender. This provides greater usability and flexibility than pure electric operation and eliminates mileage anxiety. When needed, the range extender charges the drive battery, which in turn provides power to the electric drive motors that drive the wheels.
It has three different driving modes:
PureEV - The range extender is disabled in the pure electric mode, and only electricity is used to achieve zero emissions.
SMART is the default operating mode. The most efficient way by draining the battery as much as possible before enabling the range extender. In this mode, the vehicle will intuitively start the range extender as the battery power decreases. It is particularly useful for long-distance intercity travel, driving at higher speeds when pure electric propulsion is less efficient.
SAVE: The vehicle activates the range extender to keep the battery power at the current level for future use. By using the power-saving mode, the driver can use the range extender to commute to the city and reserve battery energy for urban emission-free driving.
